Re: Favorite and least favorite Megadeth album?
Thanks for forgiving my faux pas! I'm going to give all the newer ones a listen, even the ones rated lower; if they're one of my favourite bands I should listen to everything and give lower-rated albums another spin.Follower of Jesus wrote:I’m not young (going on 50). I just prefer the more melodic style they adopted starting with TSHF. I enjoy some of their older works as well. I think Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction are both fantastic albums. I’m not as big a fan of their thrashier and more technical work. I didn’t care for Dystopia for example. Peace Sells has some good songs, but lots that doesn’t interest me. SFSGSW was a solid album too. I just think they hit the master stroke with TSHF and UA.

Probably Peace Sells and SFSGSW not far behind.

I don't know much about Hidden Treasures, I just know I love Angry Again.Sevenoneself wrote:Megadeth is my favourite secular metal act. However, IMHO, they do have an album with zero filler songs.
RiP is the best album and, with the exception of Poison Was the Cure and Lucretia, is brilliant and perfect.
CtE is a contender for best album, but IMHO the mixing/mastering killed alot of the energy and High Speed Dirt, Psychotron, & Foreclosure aren't strong enough songs.
Dystopia is also a favourite of mine. But again, filler songs (IMHO) are Foreign Policy, The Emperor, even Bullet to the Brain.
I remember being very disappointed with Hidden Treasures when it came out; I didn't realize it was a compilation. Even though I enjoy a few songs on it I'd say it is the weakest album.
But if I had to choose a studio album for weakest album it'd be Risk.

Worst is Risk, but it's good for the genre
RiP is one of the best albums ever created and easily my pick.

Idk, it seems like a mix of hard rock, arena rock, and pop rock.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:What genre do you think it is?StevenCressler wrote:Worst is Risk, but it's good for the genre

Breadline is a top notch pop-rock song and I won’t hear any different.

I agree with this. I'm not huge on pop-rock but it can be rather good at times (like Breadline or almost everything by PFR)Pethead wrote:Breadline is a top notch pop-rock song and I won’t hear any different.

Re: Favorite and least favorite Megadeth album?
You weren't there when it was released. There are worse Megadeth albums, but I have only bad memories from this album. It reminds me of metal's demise. It's a cucked, emasculated album that should have fast songs, but Dave took the producer's advice and kept all the songs at mid-tempo, since he held the philosophy that most hits are in 4/4 or something like that. Why is Megadeth trying to write hits anyway? In retrospect it has some pretty good songs, but I only have memories of pain where metal would not be cool again for another 15 or so years. And this album contributed to its demise. It's like this grave marker that says 'here lies metal' where you can pinpoint the spot in the timeline in the death of heavy metal.StevenCressler wrote:Youthanasia's underrated.Superjuice wrote:Favorite: RIP
