Genre Of Each Morty Album?
I haven't listened to it all but I'll list the ones I know.
First three - Death
Primitive Rhythm Machine - Not sure, more thrashy and groovy than the other stuff.

I'll add in HoG. To me it sounds like a unique mix of thrash, death, and power.

Re: Genre Of Each Morty Album?
Self-titled - thrash w/death vocals
Scrolls - old school death metal
Post Momentary Affliction - death metal
Blood World - groove/thrash/hardcore
Primitive Rhythm Machine - thrash/groove/death hybrid
all the rest - unlistenable
The bad hardcore-influenced shouting vocals started with Blood World, but it and PRM were musically interesting enough to make me overlook it. I've tried every album after PRM, and I just can't do it. It's like what metal would sound like if somebody was doing a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch making fun of metal.

Mortification - death-thrash
Scrolls Of The Megilloth - death metal
Post Momentary Affliction - progressive death metal
All the rest - death & roll/groove metal with varying amounts of thrash, death and hardcore influences. Even some power metal influenced stuff. Eclectic extreme metal. Or something.
Mort metal.

Just finished listening to Relentless and it's some awesome thrash. No death, no hardcore, no power(mostly), just thrash, and it's awesome.

I also just listened to The Silver Chord Is Severed and it's pretty good. Def thrash with a little death influence

When I say hardcore, I mean early to mid 80s hardcore/crust punk. Like Discharge, Amebix, etc. That, and Max Cavalera, are what I think Steve is trying to go for with his vocals from Blood World on, with very limited success. He doesn't have a good shouting voice, so it just sounds silly to me.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:Just finished listening to Relentless and it's some awesome thrash. Considering that "Envision Evangeline" is their best effort, that's pretty hilarious observation that belongs on an SNL skit!

Despite what was mentioned above, two albums I Love, Relentless and Brain Cleaner are pure thrash metal, IMHO.

I agree on those, except that Livin' Like a Zombie from Brain Cleaner is definitely death.Second Wind wrote:Despite what was mentioned above, two albums I Love, Relentless and Brain Cleaner are pure thrash metal, IMHO.

I wouldn't say best, but I would say third best behind the first two.Pro-Zak wrote:strangerhoncho wrote:Self-titled - thrash w/death vocals

The vocals on Blood World did throw me off when I first heard the album, but that's the only album where the vocals sound like that to me.strangerhoncho wrote:When I say hardcore, I mean early to mid 80s hardcore/crust punk. I get not liking Steve’s shouted vocals.
Except when those criticizing them are Roger Martinez fans…

To answer the thread, the first 3 are death metal. After that it’s something of a mix. Some are heavier than others, but none go full DM again.

Hey, I resemble that remark! There's just no accounting for taste in metal vocals....
